Artist Statement
My artistic journey is deeply rooted in my Nepalese upbringing and cultural heritage, nurtured by my family's business promoting local artists and handicrafts. Transitioning to graduate studies at the University of South Dakota in the USA was pivotal, allowing me to blend my Nepalese roots with fresh perspectives, reflected in my MFA thesis work celebrating cultural understanding and tradition.
Culture embodies identity, heritage, and belief systems, which I express through art to honor our ancestors and transmit values to future generations. I focus on the vibrant tapestry of my homeland, capturing its festivals, cuisine, and travel experiences, translating personal connections into visual narratives.
My creative process involves meticulous research and design briefs, leveraging digital imagery to convey the nuances of cultural experiences. Each stroke, color, and composition invites viewers on a journey of discovery and appreciation, fostering connections and understanding across cultures.
Ultimately, my art aims to evoke awe, curiosity, and connection, bridging cultural divides to promote a deeper appreciation for diversity. It is a universal language, transcending borders to unite us in shared experiences and conversations on the importance of cultural preservation and appreciation.
Teaching StatementOver the past three years, I've served as a teaching assistant and instructor in the University of South Dakota Art department. My philosophy revolves around fostering inclusivity and excellence. I prioritize personalized engagement, equitable treatment, and collaborative learning. I actively involve students in shaping course activities and encourage open communication to address challenges. Through tailored feedback and practical exercises, I aim to empower students, nurturing their growth and creativity for success beyond the classroom.
